hey, you! happy Sunday!
thanks for reading the twenty-first issue of The Kids Are All Right, a weekend TikTok digest written by me, a woman whose Big Plans for tonight consist of eating a lot of pasta and watching some horror movies.
cheers,

🎶 What’s Lena Thinkin’ About? 🎶
as i mentioned last week, i recently had a very busy freelancing stretch! on Tuesday i finally published this massive overview of the science behind puberty blockers, a class of drugs used to treat some transgender children. on Wednesday my review of Oxygen, a new film by the horror director Alexandre Aja, came out. and on Thursday, i got to publish the phrase “fleshless corpse” in The New York Times, because i reviewed the movie Spiral: From the Book of Saw.
when i was assigned Spiral for review, i had never seen a single Saw film. i decided i should watch at least one or two Saws in order to prepare. somehow that snowballed into me watching ALL EIGHT SAW MOVIES, because i am a little bit extra and like to do things just to say i’ve done them.
so now i have a ton of random knowledge about a) gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonists and b) one of the most notoriously braindead horror franchises and i will release it upon anybody who asks. you have been warned.
i also got my second COVID vaccine on Thursday(!!!!!!), so T-minus two weeks until the world opens up a lot more for me. i’m so excited! i miss movie theaters.
when not having the biggest week ever, i’ve been:
🎵 listening to: Fearless (Taylor’s Version)
👁 watching: Saw, Saw II, Saw III, Saw IV, Saw V, Saw VI, Saw: The Final Chapter, Jigsaw, Spiral, Oxygen, The Strangers: Prey at Night, Saint Maud, Underwater, Grey Gardens
📚 reading: Cemetery Boys, They Both Die at The End
The Main Event
here are some of my favorite TikToks as of late.
✨✨✨
Cat Sommelier
there is a cat on TikTok named Milo who is known for being a bit of a fusspot. i first saw him on my For You Page because his owner was talking about how he needs his cat bed warmed before he will deign to nap in it. he has since become a water sommelier, and his refined palate can apparently tell the difference between qualities of meat. prepare to be impressed.
first, it came to light that he will always spurn tap water for bottled
so his owner tried to figure out if he preferred a particular brand
Milo’s first official brand endorsement
Cat Goldfish Critic
on the opposite end of the spectrum, we have Gus from Craigslist, a semiferal cat that angrily eats different types of Goldfish crackers. he is delightfully chaotic. please enjoy.
Coraline Cuisine
one of my favorite movies of all time is Coraline, a creepy stop-motion animation adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s book of the same name. apparently, there is a woman on TikTok named Gabrielle Williams who recreates animated food (particularly food from Disney movies), and she has decided to devote a week to the food from Coraline. this is a movie full of bizarre, fantastical items, so let me just say: respect.
Misc. Delightful Content
you know what’s up.
Dancer of the Week
that’s it for now! remember: if we’re kind and polite, the world will be right. 🐻
