iāve had a bit of a chaotic time lately, and had to backburner this lovely little project last week. iām sorry, dear readers! i hope you didnāt miss me too terribly!
on the bright side, the sun is finally shining again in New York City. Neil and i went for a long walk yesterday, and i didnāt even have to wear a jacket. today, iām writing and then organizing my apartment a bit before heading out to a socially distanced comedy show in Bushwick ā my first Real Event in over a year.
as more and more vaccines are administered, is anybody else worried about their ability to readjust to normal life? i got my hair cut two weeks ago and it was totally overwhelming. i did make it through a busy day at the Brooklyn Museum the other day, though. itās just odd, when everything outside of my tiny apartment feels like sensory overload.
ah well, tonight should be good practice for Returning to Normalcy. and lord knows iāll need to practice if i plan on commuting back to Times Square every morning.
when not wrestling my anxiety to the ground like a slippery alligator, iāve been:

Driving Scarves
this week a TikTokker named Kayleen brought back old Hollywood headwear when she started a trend set to Mike Posnerās āPlease Donāt Go.ā the premise is simple: sing lyrics to camera, then drive glamorously donning a head scarf and sunglasses when the beat drops.
why are The Youth doing this? who cares. sometimes itās just fun to see people do something fun and silly. itās also the kind of video i would have made for fun in my suburban Florida upbringing, where driving around aimlessly was the hot extracurricular activity for boring nerds. i also seriously think driving scarves should be a thing again.
dog edition, part two (and the best of the bunch, in my humble opinion)
two girls film the trend, and meet two girls also filming the trend in the process!
this one simply reactivates my high school nostalgia
Phoebe Bridgers on Broadway
thereās always someone trying to make a musical on TikTok, whether out of the hit Pixar film Ratatouille or the Netflix megahit Bridgerton. but because my For You page truly understands me, i hit upon a new wave of theatre-makers this week: the kids who want to make a Phoebe Bridgers jukebox musical.
Bridgers, a 26-year-old singer-songwriter who recently garnered four Grammy nominations for her sophomore album Punisher, is known more for devastatingly candid lyrics than jazz hands. yet 19-year-old composer Adam Dorfman saw a chance to make something great when he saw another man belting out the Bridgers hit āKyotoā on TikTok. he made a jaw-dropping arrangement for the song, encouraged Bridgers fans to sing along, and the rest is history.
then the full-fledged arrangement, which still makes me feel like iām screaming on top of a mountain every time i listen to it, debuted a few weeks later
this effortless performance is the most popular accompaniment to Dorfmanās arrangement thus far
ā¦but this is my personal favorite
ā¦and this is a close second

Food-Themed Kittens
this week, a cat named Soup went viral for giving birth to four kittens. her foster mother, who has been chronicling Soupās entire pregnancy journey on TikTok, refers to the kittens as her souplings, and has been issuing daily updates and name reveals for each of them. as the internet looked on in delight, three other food-themed pregnant cats came out of the woodwork: Nacho, Little Debbie, and Pasta. hereās a summary of their new mom adventures below.
on March 8, it seemed Soup would go into labor at any momentā¦
ā¦but the day finally came on March 9.
by the wee hours of March 10, all four kittens had made their debut
and just yesterday, Tomato was christened. names for the fourth soupling and her two new adopted babies TBA.
Mama Pasta and Mama Nacho quickly came out of the woodwork to show their support,
and Little Debbie burst onto the scene yesterday.
